Chapter LIV

The Atlantic Ocean in Fair Weather

The next day we left Boston for Sween. The weather was lovely and as soon as our ship was in order and running at good speed, I began to work on a new model of 'Semiramis', which I intended to send home to Olava. The first model I made of that ship is standing on a table at my boarding house in Greenock. One day there came a Norwegian seaman and asked me if it was for sale. He knew a lady who would like to buy it. I concluded it would be difficult for me to keep it till I should get home. So I took the model and went along with the man. The lady was pleased with it and bought it. Ship models were much in fashion for ornaments in English homes in those days.

In the pleasant weather and easy sailing we had this time across the Atlantic I had much time to work on this second model. I thought there would be good chance to send it home from any port in Sweden. It took just 30 days from Boston to Karlshamn, Sweden. When we arrived there, the model was ready. I took it to the painter who would decorate it and put it in a glass case.
